In a holistic point of view, HealthPride YAA was created to combat the infringing laws being passed throughout a multitude of states restricting the privacy and visibility of LGBTQ+ students. Specifically, HealthPride YAA serves with a dual purpose of not only creating educational environments safe for students of all identities both within and outside the LGBTQ umbrella, but also to promote and empower a new generation of medical students with queer identities despite past stigmas. Furthermore, our non profit targets eliminating generational stigmas that surrounding the LGBTQ+ community, yet primarily gay men, in the medical field after numerous events and factors including historically classification of homosexuality being a disease, acceptance of conversion therapy, the HIV/AIDS crisis, blood donation barriers, and a wide range of discriminatory healthcare practices.
